We
are not going to lie to you, tourists have died in this cave.
Eight people died in the summer of 2007 because they went
in when it was raining very hard. They were told by the park
officials NOT to go in, but they ignored the warning. A flash
flood killed everyone except one woman who climbed to safety.
This
is a relatively safe adventure if basic safety practices are
followed. That means everyone has a waterproof light, there
are back-up (spare) lights and batteries with the group, Everyone
is wearing proper shoes, the guide has a first aid kit (and
is qualified to know how to use it) and there is a proper
guide to guest ratio. If you don't go with us, please make
sure your guide is prepared with everything listed here. |
