Thailand
is an incredible birding destination.
Khao
Sok National Park is a wonderful place to go birding. The
165 square kilometer reservoir offers easy birding from kayaks.
It is very easy to paddle up to the shoreline to see edge species
such as bubuls, sunbirds, flycatchers, kingfishers and a lot more.
Hornbills
are actually common is places like Khao
Sok National Park. It’s not uncommon to
see several species of hornbill in one day. Of course, the best
and easiest way to see the birds of Thailand is from the comfort
and convenience of a kayak. Yes, with a kayak you are capable of
slipping up on birds and other wildlife.
Have
you ever seen a hornbill? It’s really easy if you know where
to look. Bushy-crested hornbills, a gregarious species, are common
in Khao Sok. The Helmeted hornbill’s eerie calls are often
heard in the distance. You’ll see one occasionally. Almost
unbelievably, the Great hornbill is a common sighting! Wreathed
hornbills frequent the skies too.
It is very common to
see uncommon birds.
There
is something here for every type of birdwatcher. Vast marsh areas
provide great birding if you’re into migratory shorebirds.
Lush jungles and rainforests afford a birder with many opportunities.
Our Phuket
birding day trip is perhaps unexpectedly productive.
It’s common to see between 40 and 60 species in Phuket! One
of our most popular combination birding trips is Phuket
and Phang
Nga Province.
The birding
at Ton Pariwat Wildlife Sanctuary in Phang Nga
Province is sometimes hard to believe. From one strategic position,
you can watch dozens of bird species flying around. Vernal Hanging
Parrots are common. Brown Barbets, Red-throated Barbets, Coppersmith
Barbets and Blue-eared Barbets are all here. The often difficult
to see Scaly-breasted Bulbul is easy to find here.
You can
visit a couple of pleasant mangrove walkways in
Phang Nga Province. Hard to see birds like the White-chested Babblers,
Mangrove Pittas, Red-and-Black Broadbills and the Ruddy Kingfisher
are all easy to see during the spring months. They’re not
as easy to see at other times, but they are still available.
Another
tremendous birding destination is Khao
Nor Chuchi. This is the home of the rare Gurney’s
Pitta. It is southern Thailand’s last remaining lowland
jungle. With this, there are species here that aren’t available
elsewhere or are very hard to see elsewhere.
Feel
free to ask for customized birding trips. We are here to help you
see the birds you want to see.
